Quarter Horse Breeder
Represents the US in Olympic
World Pairs Driving Championships
The United States Equestrian Federation
(USEF) made the formal announcement last week, after a five month
selection process, that long time Quarter Horse breeder Mike McLennan
and wife Jerry of Brenham, Texas, have been selected by the United
States Equestrian Team to represent the United States in the 2005
World Pairs Driving Championships to be held in Salzburg Austria
in September. The full release issued by the United States Equestrian
Federation can be read at http://www.usef.org/content/newsDisplay/viewPR.php?id=592.
Also selected were Lisa Singer of Pennsylvania, and Fritz Grupe
of California.
The McLennans were the first pair
drivers west of the Mississippi to represent the United States in
the sport of combined driving when they were selected in 2003 to
compete in the world championship held in Paris, France. Double
Sugar Rey (“Ted” to his fan club) was jokingly referred
to as the only Quarter Horse to make it back from France –
alive. This year, with Fritz Grupe’s selection, it is the
first time in history two pair drivers west of the Mississippi have
been chosen to represent the US in combined driving. International
combined driving events are more popular in Europe than NASCAR is
in the United States.
Mike and Jerry celebrate 38 years
of breeding athletes with cowsense. Their first two horses, the
Poco Bueno/Wimpy’s Ojos daughters PocoMiss Solis and Poco
Miss Ojos have been the backbone of their breeding program. Their
horses have been:
AQHA Finals Top Three Junior Cutting
Horse in 1974
National Cutting Horse Top Ten 1986
National Reining Horse Leading Sire
1991
